The mansion, which dates back to the late 19th-century, is filled with period furniture and art. By appointment, tours can be taken. The mansion is worth a visit for history buffs. The mansion hosts special events such as a black-tie gala.
Historic mansion, the Wyeth-Tootle Manor is located at 11th & Charles sts. William M. Wyeth built the mansion in 1879. Mann Architects designed it in Gothic style. They had travelled extensively throughout Europe to gather ideas and build the mansion which was completed in 1883. The Tootles owned the house from 1887 until it was sold.
The mansion consists of three floors and a tower. There are more than 40 rooms inside the house. Beautiful woodwork, hand-painted ceilings and imported stained windows are all part of the interior. Visitors can also experience life in the late nineteenth century. The Wyeths-Tootle Mansion, located in downtown St. Joseph is a great place to visit. Huston Wyeth was a well-known businessman and held many positions within the city. He was actively involved in the city’s arts and manufacturing industries. He served on the board of directors of Blue Valley Creamery Co. He was involved in the Waterways League of America as well as the American Museum of Natural History. He was also a member the St. Joseph Duck Club, the Wyeth Duck Club, the Audubon Society, and the St. Joseph Duck Club. He also served the presidency of the St. Joseph Hardware Company.
