Wyeth-Tootle Mansion.
This sprawling mansion from the late 19th century features antique furnishings and art. Visits can be arranged by appointment. For history buffs, this mansion should be a must-see. You will also find special events such a black tie gala.
Historic mansion, the Wyeth-Tootle Manor is located at 11th & Charles sts. William M. Wyeth built the mansion in 1879. Mann Architects designed it in Gothic style. They had travelled extensively throughout Europe to gather ideas and build the mansion which was completed in 1883. The Tootles lived there until 1887 when it was sold.
The mansion includes three floors and one tower. There are more than 40 rooms inside the house. Beautiful woodwork, imported stained glass, and hand-painted ceilings are just a few of the features found in the interior. Visitors can also experience life in the late nineteenth century. The Wyeths-Tootle Mansion, located in downtown St. Joseph is a great place to visit. Huston Wyeth held several important positions in the city, as well as being a businessman. He was active within the city's arts and manufacturing sectors. He served as president of the Humane Society of St. Joseph, and on the board of Blue Valley Creamery Co. He was also involved with both the Waterways League of America (USA) and the American Museum of Natural History (USA). He was also a member the St. Joseph Duck Club, the Wyeth Duck Club, the Audubon Society, and the St. Joseph Duck Club. He was also the president of St. Joseph Hardware Company which he owned and managed.
