The Wyeth - Tootle Manor at 11th & Charles sts is a historic home. William M. Wyeth constructed it in 1879. The Gothic design was created by Eckel and Mann Architects. They gathered ideas from their European travels and built the mansion in 1883. The Tootles occupied the house until 1887 when it sold.
The mansion is three stories high and has a tower. The house boasts more than 40 bedrooms. Beautiful woodwork, hand-painted ceilings and imported stained windows are all part of the interior. Visitors can also experience life in the late nineteenth century. Near downtown St. Joseph, Missouri is the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion. Huston Wyeth served several roles in the city as well. He was actively involved in the city’s arts and manufacturing industries. He served on the board of directors of Blue Valley Creamery Co. He was also involved with both the Waterways League of America (USA) and the American Museum of Natural History (USA). He was also a member, among others, of the Wyeth Duck Club and St. Joseph Duck Club. He was also president of the St. Joseph Hardware Company.
