The mansion, which dates back to the late 19th-century, is filled with period furniture and art. By appointment, tours can be taken. For history buffs, this mansion should be a must-see. Special events include a black tie gala and other special events.
The Wyeth - Tootle Manor at 11th & Charles sts is a historic home. William M. Wyeth built the mansion in 1879. Mann Architects designed it in Gothic style. They gathered ideas from their European travels and built the mansion in 1883. The Tootles lived here until 1887, when the property was sold.
The mansion includes three floors and one tower. The house contains more than 40 rooms. Beautiful woodwork, imported stained glass, and hand-painted ceilings are just a few of the features found in the interior. Visitors can also experience life in the late nineteenth century. Huston Wyeth was a well-known businessman and held many positions within the city. He was involved in the city's manufacturing and art industries. He was president of St. Joseph Humane Society, and served as a member of the Blue Valley Creamery Co. He was also involved at the American Museum of Natural History and the Waterways League of America. He was also a member, among others, of the Wyeth Duck Club and St. Joseph Duck Club. He was also the president and founder of the St. Joseph Hardware Company.
